I'd try out one of the solutions suggested by the IRC Help document: I would personally not disable the firewall. If you don't configure a target IP for a particular port, the router / gateway is not going to be able to send it to a machine in order to get a response. Port forwards still need to have a target IP address specified before a response can be sent.
